The Yakutat Nature Society is excited to announce new funding that will support enhanced monitoring of Aleutian Tern nesting sites in the Yakutat area. This project aims to improve our understanding of tern population trends, nesting success, and long-term habitat needs.
The Aleutian Tern is a species of high conservation concern due to declining numbers across Alaska. With this new support, YNS will work with partners and community volunteers to conduct field surveys, improve data collection, and promote awareness of the species’ vulnerability.
This project will play an important role in our mission to protect migratory birds and maintain the ecological integrity of Yakutat’s coastal wetlands.
Stay tuned for volunteer opportunities and field updates throughout the season.
